Teaching Philosophy

Classroom Teaching

As AI tools change how engineers work, I believe engineering education needs to change with them. University-trained engineers should be able to define a problem, use engineering theory to solve it, and explain the reasons behind their decisions. In my teaching, I build a strong foundation in engineering theory and give students room to apply it to projects based on their own interests. By designing, building, and testing their ideas with the help of AI tools, students learn to check whether results make physical sense, understand why a solution works or fails, and make decisions about what to try next.

Research Mentoring

Mentoring means learning together. When a student brings a topic they care about, I study it closely too. We look at what is known, question the assumptions, and work out which unanswered questions are worth pursuing. I bring my experience, and their questions often make me reconsider my own understanding. Through this process, students gradually become independent researchers who can frame their own questions, choose their next steps, and explain their decisions.
